About Shri Govidraoji Nikam.
The late Shri Govindraoji Nikam, the Founder President of Sahyadri Shikshan Sanstha Sawarde. In 1957, he established the sanstha with the passion to make education available to every child of rural farmers, remote hilly areas, and socio-economically deprived families. He faced many difficulties while establishing Sahyadri Shikshan Sanstha at Sawarde. Initially, he started with Higher Secondary School at Sawarde called New English School, Sawarde. Thereafter, Late Hon. Shri.Govindraoji Nikam received high respect not only in the district, but also in the field of education in the Konkan region. The people of Konkan rightly called him 'Shikshan Maharshi' as he devoted his entire life to the field of education.
About Sahyadri Shikshan Sanstha, Sawarde
Sahyadri Shikshan Sanstha, Sawarde is a Public Charitable Trust established under the Societies Act 1950 and registered under the provisions of The Bombay Public Act, 1950. Sanstha is established in the year 1957 by a great visionary late "Shri Govindrao Nikam" the former MP of Ratnagiri.
The main objective of the Society has always been promoting education at all levels. The Society began with a secondary school at sawarde in 1958. Now it has its own 35 Schools, 6 Junior Colleges, 5 English Medium Schools, 8 Hostels, Industrial Training & Production Institute (ITI), Art College (Drawing), Arts & Commerce College, Polytechnic, B.Sc (Comp.), B.Sc. (IT), MBA, 2 Diploma pharmacy, Degree Pharmacy, 1 B.Ed & 2 D.Ed. Colleges, Hotel Management, 5 Agriculture & allied colleges, Nursing Institute & more.
The progress of the Sanstha is growing rapidly under the able leadership of Shri Shekhar Nikam, Chairman of the Sanstha. It has a glorious past of 63 years dedicated to the cause of education and social service.
Sahyadri Shikshan Sanstha is working on the principle of "Educating the people for their Socio-economic development in kokan region." Though the region is blessed with natural resources it is still lagging behind in educational and agricultural aspects. We keep the prime objective to educate the students from the remote villages in the technical, agricultural and medical field. This in turn will generate employment opportunities to this people result in the socio-economic development of the society in this most competitive and liberalized world.
